About the Merger
Charlotte Emergency Housing, Family Promise of Charlotte and the Workforce Initiative for Supportive Housing (W.I.S.H.) merged on 7/1/11 to form Charlotte Family Housing, the city’s only transitional shelter and housing agency focused solely on providing support to Charlotte’s homeless families.
“Charlotte Family Housing will work together with our legacy organizations and the community to try and solve family homelessness in the greater Charlotte area,” said Darren Ash, Executive Director of the W.I.S.H. Program, and the new Executive Director for Charlotte Family Housing. “Our three legacy organizations shared similar missions for many years and combining our services is a significant next step to enhancing our services to Charlotte’s homeless families. We will deliver a unique and innovative continuum of care model for the families we serve and expect that over time, this organization will be highly regarded as an organization that has made a tremendous impact in reducing homeless families in our community.”
Charlotte Family Housing is headquartered at St. John’s Baptist Church (300 Hawthorne Lane, Charlotte, NC 28204). The agency has approximately 30 associates as part of the combined entity supporting homeless families in the Charlotte community.
“Charlotte ranks as second in the nation for having the largest percentage increase in homeless families,” added Ash. “Charlotte Family Housing will elevate the level of support we provide to these families to ensure we help reduce family homelessness in this community.”
The new organization will remain a 501c(3) organization, and it will be governed by a new Board of Directors made up of selected Board members from all three agencies.
